“My job was to awaken possibility in other people.” Ben Zander
I watched Benjamin Zander’s TedTalk. He’s not a young sprite, yet he’s dancing all over the stage speaking to the audience about how to love classical music. He transmits unbridled enthusiasm.
TRIGGERS WHICH BLOCK
What prevents us from sharing unbridled enthusiasm in our lives? The usual: Mental rigidity, fight or flight, shame, fear, anger, etc.
Negative emotions interfere with the expansive relaxed feelings which help us think clearly, use the imagination and connect to others.
But we are not taught how to transform negative emotions. I can feel the contraction of negative emotions and I can feel when I shut down in the classroom and in my personal life. Call it fear, injustice, childhood memories, whatever. Something triggers this “mind clench” and I am no longer joyful and creative.
KNOW OUR TRIGGERS
The triggers are innumerable, based on our own myriad of experiences. I have an aversion to loud noises. I also am sensitive to others in my space. Certain odors trigger a negative reaction.
So it helps to know know our triggers so we are not the affect of them, but we need to also stop being magnets for those trigger situations.
Could it be we are magnetized to attract certain people or situations?
For a long time I was drawn to controlling people, and people who invaded my personal space.
I felt like a “victim” of these people and forces until I found ways to alter my vibration, heal my emotions, mind and body. There were other steps along the way. As always ,it helped to find and do what I loved and give it to others. Focusing on others, in my case my students, helped shift me from fear to joy. Like a magnet who was attracting negative ions, I began to neutralize and found more choice and freedom.
When I looked up magnets, I found this interesting information: “Hammering, heating or twisting of the magnets can demagnetize them.” (source)
Life can challenge us. Many periods in my life, I had to question my ego and what I identified with. It seemed like I was “hammered and heated and twisted” like a magnet. The effect was I began to attract much different people, jobs, and situations into my life when I surrendered to something beyond ego, the mind.
BEYOND NEGATIVE PROGRAMMING
It’s empowering to realize how we can reprogram our lives–what we attract–when remember what we have to give to those in our lives, like our friends, our pets, and our professions. Life becomes exponential because it is something larger than our own limits.
I was no longer in a reactive state attracting things I did not want.
Benjamin Zander in his TED talk is a magnet for joy and abundance because his focus is outflow; his whole purpose is giving his joy of classical music to others in the audience. You can see them “light up” with his magnetic personality and joy.
It is his enthusiasm for others that makes his talk so dynamic.
When we are in outflow or giving mode, more comes to us in order to move through me to the world to others.
Keep the flow, demagnetize by finding your joy and giving it out to others. Help polarize the whole world to joy.
