I did a lot of research on the brain for my book, “Why Zarmina Sings.” I had to find out how the brain worked under stress and how the brain worked differently when it was not causing the release of cortisol and other stress related hormones. My research led to HeartMath Institute. The scientists of HeartMath Institute write on the “coherence” between the heart and brain and how this coherence can increase in the presence of trees. The two most vivid memories that I have from my stress induced childhood involve trees. In the first memory, I was sitting in the very simple tree fort we made that consisted of three two by fours at various locations in the tree. I can still feel the

Healing from the Heart and Sun
Finding voice in writing and in life is not a stagnant. Recently I wanted to write more about nature, healing, trees, and animals. This morning I had an interesting experience with the sun. People have worshiped the sun all throughout time. Today’s sun worshipers head south to the beach every year. I wonder now if there is more than the tan propelling them. The sun recently got my attention when I heard from a few sources that the early morning sun helped people heal vision problems. Because of my own vision issues I got up a few times and stared at the first break of the sun, careful to stare just below the center of the sun. And it did feel good on my eyes

Be Present to Life – Do the Taps from Jen Ward
Being present to your life is living your purpose. Your purpose is to be here now. Then, whatever you need to know or do or learn will come to you at the right time. I always thought I knew how to be present, but I had a lot of blocks. I’ve been doing the taps of Jen Ward for about three years now. So many of the blocks to being present are gone. Through Jen’s SFT taps (Spiritual Freedom Taps) and private sessions I’ve removed fears, doubt, beliefs that have blocked me from being present. In private sessions, she honed in on more subtle blocks and she created taps for me to do. Now I can create taps for myself based on difficulty I may

Focus on What Shines in the Classroom and in Life
I was in class the other day and the semester was winding down. I had such a great group of students. Each was unique. I was looking over the outlines they created for their essay. I try to give them a way to creatively explore the topic, but don’t always have time to do this in class. Two of the students in class can’t go directly to an outline. I put their outlines on the overhead like I did everyone else’s. “Adam engages his heart here. He writes and writes till he connects to the subject matter. It’s an important step.” I went on, “I have to teach you structure but you need to find a way to connect your head and heart. If you

Five Ways to Ground the Energy and Why It’s a Good Idea
After a life of high anxiety and over-thinking things, I had to relearn how to be in my body and ground. Grounding my energy has helped me in every way: It has helped me listen to my heart, calm my brain, and finish tasks—even get rid of the hiccups :-). There were many ways I get grounded but here are my top five: Chi-kung. Doing chi-kung caused the energy which was swirling chaotically around and through me to move coherently through me. I noticed improvements in digestion and spinal alignment and more. I stopping praying to that source out there—God the Universe, Spirit, and started listening it instead. The energy no longer left my body and it allowed me to truly go inwardly like they
